Twenty-five years may have passed since its release, but listening to Christina Aguilera’s Mi Reflejo in true quality feels like tearing a veil off a masterpiece. While the English-speaking world was busy digesting Genie in a Bottle , the Latin market received something far more substantial: an album that refused to be a simple translation.

If you only speak English, let the music speak first. If you speak Spanish, you already know why this album matters.
Rating: ★★★★½ (Docked half a star only because the booklet art in the CD release was criminally small.)
A Spanish version of I Turn to You (Diane Warren). In English, it’s a power ballad. In Spanish, it becomes a religious experience. Aguilera modifies her vowel shapes to fit the language, creating a warmth that the English version lacks.
