It's not the brutal simulator that Dirt Rally became, nor the mainstream hit that Dirt 5 would later aim for. But on PC, with its fast load times, high frame rates, and the genius of "Your Stage," it remains a uniquely replayable rally game. It's a game about driving , not memorization. And for many PC players, that's exactly what they want on a rainy Saturday afternoon.

When Codemasters released Dirt 4 in June 2017, it faced a unique challenge. It had to follow the critically adored but punishingly difficult Dirt Rally (2015) while also appealing to fans of the more accessible, stunt-heavy Dirt 3 . On PC, Dirt 4 sits right at the crossroads of that identity crisis—but for the right player, it remains a compelling, underrated package. Procedural generation in racing games is often a gimmick, but Codemasters nailed it.

This is where PC players with good headphones or surround sound win. The gravel pings against the wheel wells. The turbo whistle of a 2016 Ford Fiesta R5 spooling up is visceral.
