Suddenly, I heard a loud bang from outside my room. I froze, my heart racing with fear. I slowly got up from my bed and made my way to the door. I hesitated for a moment, wondering if I should investigate or just stay hidden under my covers.
As I sat in my dimly lit room, I couldn't help but think about the old adage: "Don't be afraid of the dark." My parents had always told me this when I was a child, but now that I was alone in my small apartment, I wasn't so sure.
The power had gone out during a storm, and I was left with only the faint glow of my phone's screen to light my way. I had tried to call the electric company, but they had told me that it would be hours before someone could come to fix the lines.
And as for the cat, it became my constant companion, always there to remind me that even in the darkest of times, there is always something to be found.
