Dostoevsky’s terrifying conclusion is that the world is not ready for absolute goodness. It is a place of competing egos, where everyone is a potential Rogozhin, driven by pride and lust, and everyone is a potential Nastasya, too broken to accept forgiveness. Myshkin’s tragedy is that his love was not a solution; it was a catalyst.
