I kept playing because the level design was impossibly good. Hallways led to places they shouldn’t. A stairwell descended for three minutes before dumping me into a room where the ceiling was the floor. I walked on the ceiling. The shotgun felt wrong. Its sound file had been replaced with a dull, wet thud—like meat dropped on linoleum.
