Who Was Ibn Sirin? Muhammad Ibn Sirin (652–729 CE / 33–110 AH) was a renowned Muslim theologian, jurist, and interpreter of dreams from Basra, Iraq. He was a contemporary of the Tabi‘un (the generation after the Prophet’s companions) and is widely regarded as the greatest authority on dream interpretation in Islamic tradition. His methodology combined Quranic principles, Arabic linguistics, prophetic traditions (hadith), and psychological insight. The Famous Work: Ta’tir al-Anam fi Ta’bir al-Manam Contrary to popular belief, Ibn Sirin himself did not write a book on dream interpretation . The text commonly attributed to him—often called The Dictionary of Dreams or The Great Book of Interpretation of Dreams —was compiled by later scholars based on his teachings, rulings, and recorded interpretations. The most famous compilation is Ta’tir al-Anam fi Ta’bir al-Manam (Perfuming Mankind with the Interpretation of Dreams).
