Jannat (translated as "Heaven") is a paradoxical film. On the surface, it’s a love story. In reality, it’s a grim character study of greed, obsession, and moral decay, wrapped in the skin of a sports-romance-drama. The Core Narrative Arjun (Emraan Hashmi) is a small-time cricket bookie with big dreams. He wants money, status, and the beautiful, morally upright Zoya (Sonal Chauhan). Zoya wants a simple, honest life. Arjun pretends to be that man, marries her, but gets sucked deeper into match-fixing, partnering with a crime boss (the excellent Javed Sheikh).
