1. Overview Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Rumi (1207–1273) is one of the most widely read poets in history. His masterpiece, the Masnavi-ye Ma’navi (Spiritual Couplets), often spelled Mesnevija (Turkish) or Masnavi (Persian), is a six-book poem of approximately 25,000 verses. It is considered the “Qur’an in Persian” by many Sufis due to its deep mystical and ethical teachings. 2.
