"This cake," Vanilla whispered, "tastes like hope."
Fourteen-year-old Ichigo Amano tumbled out of bed, her strawberry-print pajamas twisted like a failed soufflé. She was, by all accounts, an ordinary girl—clumsy, kind-hearted, and spectacularly hopeless at anything requiring coordination. Except for one thing: her taste buds.
She took a tiny bite. The kitchen went silent. Vanilla’s eyes widened. Then she began to glow—softly at first, then brilliantly, like a star waking up. Yumeiro Patissiere Episode 1
"Sorry!" Ichigo squeaked, whisk spinning out of control. The batter splattered—onto her face, the ceiling, and the teacher’s notes.
Thirty minutes in, her cake pan caught fire. (How? She didn’t know.) "This cake," Vanilla whispered, "tastes like hope
"Because… I love sweets. Not just eating them. But the feeling they give. Like a hug you can taste."
Defeated, Ichigo sank to the floor. "I can't do this. I can't even bake a simple cake." She took a tiny bite
Vanilla tilted her head. "Interesting." Ichigo stood up. She had no technique, no training. But she had her taste.
